Holy Prophet’s (sa) parting counsel to his Ummah

Al Hakam Weekly29th May 2026

Hazrat Ibn ‘Abbas (ra) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sa) addressed the people on the Day of Nahr [the day of sacrifice] and said, “O people, what day is this?” They replied, “A sacred day.” He said, “What city is this?” They replied, “A sacred city.” He said, “What month is this?” They replied, “A sacred month.” He said, “Indeed, your blood, your wealth and your honour are inviolable among you, just as this day of yours is sacred, in this town of yours, in this month of yours.” He repeated this several times. Then he raised his head and said, “O Allah, have I conveyed? O Allah, have I conveyed?”

Hazrat Ibn ‘Abbas (ra) said, “By the One in Whose hand is my life, this was indeed his parting counsel to his Ummah: ‘Let the one who is present convey it to the one who is absent. Do not turn back after me as disbelievers, striking one another’s necks.’”
