عَنْ أَسْمَاء، قَالَتْ قَدِمَتْ أُمِّي وَهْىَ مُشْرِكَةٌ فِي عَهْدِ قُرَيْشٍ وَمُدَّتِهِمْ، إِذْ عَاهَدُوا النَّبِيَّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم مَعَ أَبِيهَا، فَاسْتَفْتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ أُمِّي قَدِمَتْ وَهْىَ رَاغِبَةٌ {أَفَأَصِلُهَا} قَالَ: نَعَمْ صِلِي أُمَّكِ.
Hazrat Asma (ra) narrated:
“My mother, who was a polytheist, came to me accompanied by her father during the truce agreed between the Quraysh and the Prophet (sa). I sought the Prophet’s (sa) ruling and said, ‘My mother has come of her own accord. Should I maintain ties with her?’ The Prophet (sa) replied, ‘Yes. Show kindness to your mother.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-adab, Bab silati l-mar’ati ummaha wa laha zawj, Hadith 5979)
