“Make my heart steadfast on faith”

شَهْرُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ مَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُ دُعَاءِ رَسُوْلِ اللہِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَكِ قَالَتْ كَانَ أَكْثَرُ دُعَائِهِ يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوْبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِیْ عَلیٰ دِيْنِكَ

قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللہِ مَا لأَكْثَرِ دُعَائِكَ يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوْبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِیْ عَلیٰ دِيْنِكَ قَالَ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ آدَمِيٌّ إِلَّا وَقَلْبُهُ بَيْنَ أُصْبُعَيْنِ مِنْ أَصَابِعِ اللہِ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَقَامَ وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَزَاغَ

Hazrat Shahr bin Haushub^ra narrated:

“I asked Hazrat Umm Salamah^ra to tell me the most often repeated prayer of the Holy Prophet^sa. She told me this prayer. ‘O the Convertor of Hearts, make my heart steadfast on Faith.’ She said, ‘I enquired from the Holy Prophet^sa why did he repeat this prayer so often. He replied, “God is in total control of a person’s heart, as if the heart is held between His two fingers and He can turn it whenever He wants.”’”
