Over 100 cyclists take part in Ride4Peace Spain 2026

Four years on, Ride4Peace has grown into something far greater than a cycling trip. What began modestly has evolved into an international effort rooted in unity, discipline and purpose. Preparations began six months in advance, with coordination spanning the UK, Spain, Canada and the USA.

This year brought together over a hundred cyclists from these regions, alongside a small number of non-Ahmadi participants. In the weeks leading up to departure, cyclists prepared their bikes, packing them carefully into cardboard boxes, now instinctive. Riders arrived with whatever they had, from entry-level setups to high-end machines, each according to their means.

Departure day unfolded naturally, with small groups forming as riders travelled towards their respective airports. Those departing from Islamabad gathered early, forming a core group. Sadr Majlis Ansarullah UK, Sahibzada Mirza Waqas Ahmad, met individuals, especially first-time riders, ensuring they felt part of something greater. Before departure, he addressed the group and led a silent prayer. By the time all riders arrived in Seville and boarded the coach to Pedro Abad, those individual journeys had merged into one.

The following day centred around Jumuah prayer and preparation. By evening, the marquee inside the Basharat Mosque had become a space of collective effort, as bikes were assembled, tools shared and conversations flowed freely. There was no distinction between experienced riders and newcomers; everyone contributed and supported one another. Alongside this, a dedicated food team worked tirelessly in the background, ensuring that every individual was looked after.

The first ride, just over 100 kilometres with significant climbing, set the tone. For many, this level of elevation was unfamiliar, adding both challenge and meaning to the day. Mechanical issues inevitably arose, but each one was met collectively. Those with experience supported those without and no rider was left behind. That spirit was tested further when, later that day, it became apparent that one cyclist had not returned. What followed reflected the group’s maturity. The search effort was conducted, calmly organising teams to cover the route in both directions. Within a short time, the cyclist was located safely and brought back, looked after, fed and reassured.

The second ride towards Jaen and the final return to Pedro Abad carried a growing sense of confidence and cohesion. Riders who may have struggled initially began to find their stride. The landscape of Andalusia, with its open roads and clear skies, provided a fitting backdrop, but it was the shared experience that left the greater impression.

By the final evening, the physical challenge had given way to reflection. Bikes were packed once more and an opportunity was arranged for the group to spend time together in Cordoba, allowing everyone to unwind and appreciate the journey they had completed. The following morning, riders gathered again, not to ride, but to clean, organise and prepare for departure, a simple act reflecting the same spirit carried throughout the trip.

What becomes clearer with each year is that Ride4Peace continues to fulfil its purpose in deeper ways. It is not simply about cycling long distances, but about building physical, mental and spiritual endurance, while conveying a message of peace through collective effort.
