Status of Hazrat Ubayy ibn Ka‘b

عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِى اللهُ عَنهُ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم لأُبَىّ:‏ إِنَّ اللهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ‏‏.‏ قَالَ أُبَىٌّ: آللهُ سَمَّانِي لَكَ؟ قَالَ:‏ اللهُ سَمَّاكَ لِي.‏ فَجَعَلَ أُبَىٌّ يَبْكِي‏.

Hazrat Anas^ra bin Malik narrated that the Holy Prophet^sa said to Hazrat Ubayy^ra, “Allah has ordered me to recite the Quran to you.” Hazrat Ubayy^ra asked, “Did Allah mention me by name to you?” The Holy Prophet^sa said, “Allah has mentioned your name to me.” Upon that, Hazrat Ubayy^ra started weeping.
