This Week in History: 23-29 October

23 October 1883: On this day, the Promised Messiah (as) said that prior to 24 October on one occasion, he received the following revelation from God Almighty:

اگر تمام لوگ منہ پھیر لیں تو مَیں زمین کے نیچے سے یا آسمان کے اُوپر سے مدد کرسکتا ہوں۔

“If all people should turn away, I can help from below the earth or from above the heaven.” (Tadhkirah [English], p. 140)

23 October 1940: A delegation all the way from Calcutta arrived in Qadian to visit the town’s educational institutes. Members of this Kamal-Yar-Jung Education Committee also had an audience with Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud (ra) on this day.

To read more, see: “Coming from every distant track: Kamal Yar Jung’s education committee visits Qadian” at www.alhakam.org.

23 October 1947: After the sad events of the Indian Partition, Major-General Kodendera Subayya Thimayya and Husain Shaheed Suhrawardy visited Qadian on this day and held meetings with the elders of the Jamaat. They wanted to know about the situation in and around Qadian. They were accompanied by Dr Dinshaw Mehta, the famous associate of Mahatma Gandhi. (Silsila Ahmadiyya, Vol. 2, p. 217)

24 October 1987: On this day, during his tour of the United States, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (rh) laid the foundation stone of the Bait-ul-Hameed Mosque in Los Angeles. (Silsila Ahmadiyya, Vol. 4, p. 844)

25 October 1924: Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud (ra) commenced his journey back to Qadian after his successful tour of England. Huzoor (ra) departed from London’s Waterloo Station on this day along with his entourage. (Tarikh-e-Ahmadiyyat, Vol. 4, p. 461)

25 October 1926: On this day, Hazrat Maulana Zahoor Hussain returned to Qadian after two years of imprisonment in Russia. This devout missionary travelled to the Soviet lands to spread the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat but was apprehended upon his arrival on false suspicions of espionage. He patiently faced barbaric torture and other hardships during his captivity. (Tarikh-e-Ahmadiyyat, Vol. 4, p. 475)

25 October 2013: On this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aa) inaugurated a mosque in Brisbane, which was the first Ahmadiyya mosque in Queensland State, Australia. (“Muslim Leader Arrives in Brisbane” www.pressahmadiyya.com)

26 October 2012: During his Friday sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aa) mentioned the sacrifices of the Jamaat in Pakistan and said:

“The number of life sacrifices presented by the Jamaat in Pakistan during the previous two years was unprecedented. Anyway, these sacrifices will not go in vain; rather, they will pave the way for future victories.”

Huzooraa also mentioned some martyrs, Saad Farooq Sahib, Bashir Ahmad Bhatti Sahib and Dr Raja Abdul Hameed Khan Sahib of Karachi and Riaz Ahmad Basra Sahib of Ghatialian, District Sialkot.

27 October 1904: On this day, the Promised Messiah (as) embarked on his journey to the city of Sialkot. The entourage commenced its journey from Qadian at 4 am. The Promised Messiah (as) covered half the distance seated in a palki (palanquin) and the other half of the journey, towards Batala, on foot. Huzoor (as) reached Batala by 8 am. From Batala Railway Station, a second-class rail carriage was reserved for the travelling party. Hazrat Ahmad (as) reached Sialkot at around 6 pm. (Tarikh-e-Ahmadiyyat, Vol. 2, p. 359)

27 October 1963: On this day, the Alam-e-In‘ami award was introduced for Atfal-ul-Ahmadiyya. Previously, it was distributed among the leading majlis of Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya only. The first ever Alam-e-In‘ami was given to Sialkot Majlis. (Al Fazl, 31 October 1963, p. 8)

28 October 1966: On this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih III (rh) laid the foundation stone of Masjid Aqsa, Rabwah. (Al Fazl, 20 October 1966, p. 1)

29 October 1905: During his stay in Delhi on this day, the Promised Messiah (as) visited the shrines of the Sufi saint Hazrat Muhammad Nizamuddin Auliya (rh) and the renowned Sufi musician, poet, and scholar Amir Khusrow Dehlvi. Khawaja Hasan Nizami also had an audience with Huzoor (as) that same day.

This date also marks a profound example of absolute obedience by Hazrat Hakeem Maulvi Noor-ud-Deen (ra), who arrived in Delhi that very day. He had been busy examining patients at his clinic in Qadian when he received an urgent telegram from Hazrat Ahmad (as) instructing him to come to Delhi immediately. Without a single moment of hesitation, he left everything on the spot and set off instantly. He departed in such haste that he tied his turban and slipped into his shoes while already on the move, not even pausing to check if he had money in his pocket for travel expenses. (Tarikh-e-Ahmadiyyat, Vol. 2, pp. 425-426)
