Harzat Ali, Allah be pleased with him, relates that the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
“A time will come when nothing will remain of Islam except its name and nothing will remain of the Quran except its script. Mosques will be full of worshippers, but as far as righteousness is concerned, they will be empty and deserted. Their ulema [religious scholars] will be the worst of creatures under the canopy of the heavens. Evil plots will originate from them and to them will they return.”

وَعَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ لَا يَبْقَى مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ إِلَّا اسْمُهُ وَلَا يَبْقَى مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ إِلَّا رَسْمُهُ مَسَاجِدُهُمْ عَامِرَةٌ وَهِيَ خَرَابٌ مِنَ الْهُدَى عُلَمَاؤُهُمْ شَرُّ مَنْ تَحْتَ أَدِيمِ السَّمَاءِ مِنْ عِنْدِهِمْ تَخْرُجُ الْفِتْنَةُ وَفِيهِمْ تَعُودُ» . رَوَاهُ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي شُعَبِ الْإِيمَان
حضرت علی ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ قریب ہے کہ لوگوں پر ایک ایسا دور آئے جب اسلام کا صرف نام اور قرآن کا صرف رسم الخط باقی رہ جائے گا ، ان کی مساجد آباد ہوں گی لیکن وہ ہدایت سے خالی ہوں گی ، ان کے علما آسمان تلے بدترین لوگ ہوں گے ، ان کے پاس سے فتنہ ظاہر ہو گا اور انہی میں لوٹ جائے گا ۔‘‘ «رواہ البیھقی فی شعب الایمان (۱۹۰۸)» ۔
