Eid celebrations in Argentina

For the first time, La Plata, which is the capital city of the province Buenos Aires – the largest province in Argentina – hung the banner of “Eid Mubarak” for two days on their town hall. It was an enormous gesture to express sympathy and tolerance towards the Islamic faith and the Muslims living in Argentina.

I was invited as the president of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Argentina to the town hall to lead a silent prayer according to the Islamic tradition in the presence of different representatives of the council. The initiative of hanging the Eid banner on the town hall is a result of the good relations between the local Ahmadi Muslims and the council of La Plata.

As Ramadan is known as the month of charity and the celebration of Eid also includes the element of charity towards fellow beings, this year, Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Argentina organised special events in this regard.

In the city of Cordoba, in two different neighbourhoods, prepared meals were distributed to around 250 people. Local members and friends of the community prepared and personally distributed the meals to people living in extreme poverty.
