Malik ibn Sa‘sa‘ah reported that Allah’s Messengersa spoke about the night of his ascension, saying, “Then Gabriel ascended with me until we reached the second heaven, where he requested the gate be opened. It was asked, ‘Who is it?’ Gabriel answered, ‘It is Gabriel.’ Then, it was asked, ‘Who is with you?’ He replied, ‘Muhammad[sa].’ ‘Has he been sent for?’ was further enquired. Gabriel affirmed, ‘Yes.’ Once inside, I met John[as] and Jesus[as], who were maternal cousins. Gabriel introduced them, ‘This is John[as] and Jesus[as]; please, would you greet both of them.’ I extended my greetings, and they reciprocated before saying, ‘Welcome, righteous brother and righteous Prophetsa.’”
