Hazrat Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman relates that he asked Hazrat Aishahra, “How did Allah’s Messengersa pray during Ramadan?” She replied, “He never prayed more than eleven rakʿahs in Ramadan or at any other time. He would perform four rak‘ahs – do not ask about the beauty and length of them – then another four of equal beauty and length, and finally three. I said, ‘O Allah’s Messengersa, do you sleep before offering the witr?’ He replied, ‘My eyes sleep, but my heart does not sleep.’”
